Jacqui (Jacqueline) Harvey

Founder, Psychologist, and ANZAED Credentialed Eating Disorder Psychologist

Limited availability for new clients

Jacqui has a particular interest in supporting clients with:

  • Eating disorders, body image concerns, ARFID

  • Complex trauma and dissociation

  • Neurodivergence (Autism, ADHD +) and intersecting issues such as life transitions (navigating relationships, pregnancy, parenthood)

  • Other health issues (chronic pain, chronic illness, adjusting to a new diagnosis)

I have been working as a psychologist delivering one-on-one therapy for over five years, and this is the work I truly love to do. My core values as a therapist are compassion, empathy, authenticity, and humanity. I draw from my own lived experience of being neurodivergent (AuDHD+), having recovered from a restrictive eating disorder, and struggling to find support that truly fit.

I have a particular interest in working with complex, intersecting issues (i.e., trauma, eating disorders, and neurodivergence) and minority groups (LGBTQIA+, BIPOC, First Nations). I have experience working in community settings including ATSI community health, and prior to becoming a psychologist I was enrolled in a PhD completing research work related to maternal incarceration.

My approach is above all, fully relational and person-centred, and I aim to be trauma-informed, culturally safe, neuroaffirming, and accessible.

(What do these things mean in practice? Some examples:

  • Partners (or another support person) and babies are welcome in session

  • You are free to bring activities into session that would let you feel more comfortable (knitting, crotchet, artwork)

  • We can change the structure, duration (30 or 90 minute sessions also available), and location (nature therapy, telehealth) of our sessions.

  • Bring food/drinks into session, and adjust things like the temperature, lighting, or background noise

  • We will actively address social and systemic factors that contribute to and perpetuate trauma)

I have been a psychologist for 3 years, delivering one-on-one therapy, assessment and family/parenting support. I draw on lived experience as a late diagnosed neurodivergent woman, and am heavily guided by my values of compassion, empathy, connection with others, and embracing and celebrating authenticity.

Many people come to therapy having already tried a few things; sometimes with the feeling that therapy “should” be working but it just isn’t quite fitting. I’m particularly interested in helping people who feel stuck, misunderstood, burnt out from trying to meet expectations, or simply want a space where they don’t have to mask. My goal is for therapy to be a place where you feel respected, understood and able to be yourself, while having someone alongside you to make sense of what is happening and work out where you want to go next, and how to get there.

I want therapy to feel like a space where you can actually be yourself. You don’t need to have the right words, make eye contact, sit perfectly still, or arrive knowing exactly what you want to work on. You can laugh, cry, swear, sit in silence, bring a coffee, craft, and take things at a pace that feels right. My aim is not to judge or “fix” you, but to work alongside you to understand what your brain needs, and how to establish systems that can work.

Specifics about my approach: I’m a warm, curious and sincere psychologist who takes a person-centred, strengths-based, trauma-informed and neuroaffirming approach. I use a range of therapeutic approaches, including DBT, ACT, Compassion-Focused Therapy, EMDR, SSCM, and Internal Family Systems. I don’t believe therapy needs to be rigid or one-size-fits-all, so I adapt our work to suit you, your goals and what you have capacity for at the time. I also have a background in psychological and neurodevelopmental assessment, including ADHD, Autism and learning assessments. I see assessment as an opportunity to build understanding and self-knowledge and to build skills from that.
